Toronto Calling
This a photographic record of an era in Toronto music history which in those days was
underground
and locked out of mainstream media.
About The Photographers
Inspired by the energy and DIY ethic of the punk movement, Nick and Simon White, two
brothers from downtown Toronto, armed with a battered 35mm camera, tips
from their dad and a love for music, captured the emerging British and Jamacian punk and reggae era as
it came into the small venues of Toronto. Nick White joined the Queen Street band Rent Boys Inc as Nick
Smash and ended up in London, England in 1983 where he was recruited by fellow ex-Torontonian Dave Howard
to be a part of the legendary Dave Howard Singers. After, he joined Island Records as a Press Officer,
making his stay in England a little more permanent...where he still lives.
